Master of Athletic Training

Program Overview

The Master of Athletic Training program provides students with theoretical knowledge and understanding of the profession of athletic training. The program blends classroom instruction and structured clinical experiences through a process that results in students gaining eligibility to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination upon graduation from Wesleyan. Students who graduate from the program and subsequently pass the national certification exam will be qualified to be employed as athletic trainers in secondary schools, in colleges and universities, for professional athletic teams, in sports medicine clinics, or in industrial preventive medicine clinics.

CAATE Program Information and Outcomes

Virtual Open House – October 22, 2024

  • 5-Year MAT
    • The 5-Year MAT is available to current WVWC Exercise Science majors. The coursework for both the undergraduate exercise science major and the MAT graduate program are carefully planned over a period of 5 years, allowing students to graduate with 2 degrees.
    • Students apply around the fall semester of Junior/3rd year at WVWC in the Exercise Science/5YR MAT major, as long as completion of required prerequisite coursework will be finished at the end of that academic year. Upon acceptance, students start taking MAT classes (fall semester, Senior/4th year at WVWC) while finishing the final required credits of undergraduate coursework in Exercise Science, completing all by the end of the 5th year.
    • 5-Year MAT students are not eligible for GA positions because you are taking undergraduate courses and graduate courses at the same time.
